In the mid 1950's, Rallec Railroad had it's beginnings in Rivervale, New Jersey and started by my Grandfather, John Gleeson. My Grandfather's interest in railroading came as his father was a painter in Scranton, Pennsylvania for the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. His father was later transferred to Elizabeth, New Jersey with the same railroad. My Grandfather wife's father was a railroad locomotive engineer for the Central Railroad of New Jersey. So in the mid 1950's, while owning his own, successful dog grooming business, he and his son, my Uncle Bob, started an HO layout in the cellar of his home. I was fortunate to live with my Grandparents in the late 1950's and spent many hours working on the layout and running operations even at a young age. His layout grew to 3,600 square feet at the conclusion sometime in the early 1970's. (Note: If you look for the italic word and spell it backwards, you will see where the name of the railroad came from.)
In memory of my Grandfather and the wonderful time I had with him, I continued the railroad tradition with the same name but this time in G-scale, narrow guage. I try to scrathbuild almost everything since I enjoy the journey as much as running trains. As a retired Electronics Engineer, I am most interested in the electronics end of things. 3D printing, laser cutting, all the new technologies that can be applied to the hobby.
